INFO~CANCER SERIES #5: The Anti-Cancer Diet

INFO~CANCER SERIES #5: The Anti-Cancer Diet

Some foods have been known to enhance your chances of developing cancer. They do not directly cause cancer, but when various cancers were discovered, these foods were often prominent in the diet of the cancer victims. These include:
  1. Fatty red meat (lean meat should be consumed instead and in moderation)
  2. Processed food and meat of any kind
  3. Organs - liver, kidney, brains, etc.
  4. Skin of fowl
  5. Fried food
  6. High-fat dairy products
  7. Alcohol
  8. Sugar

The food you should include in your diet for good health, cancer prevention and maximum energy include:

  1. Fowl with skin removed
  2. Cleaned fish at least 3 times a week
  3. Low-fat dairy products
  4. Lots of fruits and vegetables
  5. Pasta
  6. Beans and lentils
  7. Grains and nuts but watch the fat content
  8. Soy protein
  9. Fibre
  10. Garlic
  11. Calcium, Zinc, Iron, etc.
  12. Folic acid
  13. Milk thistle - a herb that aids in liver health, both by protecting it from toxic damage and helping it regenerate
  14. Anti-oxidants such as vitamins A, C and E; betacarotene, etc
  15. EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) - a fatty acid from cold water fish that helps to limit tumour development
  16. Gamma Linolenic Acid (EFA) - an essential fatty acid which prevents a metastasis in some cancers by increasing the strength of a cellular glue called E-cadherin. This holds the cells tightly to one another and prevents them from breaking loose and spreading.
  17. Lots of fresh, clean water

Even with a healthy, balanced diet, you must never discount the importance of watching your calorie intake as well as exercising and keeping fit.

Urgent Appeal for Adik Mohd Syazwan Johari, 3 years old

Dear Friends,

I just want to highlight an urgent appeal for Mohd Syazwan Johari, 3 years old will be going to seek a very urgent cancerous right eye treatment at Wills Eye Hospital,Philadelphia, USA.He already lost his left eye due to retinablastoma. He will be accompanied by his blind mom and my colleague, Puan Fadzilah Wan, Volunteer Coordinator for MAKNA.

The trip is supposed to be funded by Ministry of Health Malaysia (for the treatment cost & lodging) and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (for travel cost) and my organisation, The National Cancer Council MAKNA (for daily stipends). We already making the arrangement with Malaysian community in Philly to help out with food and winter clothing during their stay for 18 days course of treatment.

However we received a very bad news today when Ministry of Health of Malaysia didn't approved the funding for unknown reason. He is supposed to go last Sunday 10th Dec.Now without the funding, the trip looks bleak.Still, we believe it can be done.

What they need:Funds of USD12,500 or RM50,000 for the treatment cost. The rest is covered by MAKNA and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara. Just the treatment cost.

What you can do:
Help to fundraise for this young boy.

Every dollars and Ringgit counts!

Help to spread the word!

You may donate directly to Syazwan through his Mum's Bank Account:

AMBANK - 1260020004692 (NUR SAKINAH LEONG ABDULLAH)

If you are interested to help or further info please contact me via email:iskandar@makna.org.my or my mobile 6019-6925192.

I can give you further details ( medical reports/treatment cost/bank account details)

* Iskandar works for the National Cancer Council.

ANGKASAONE: I have met this lovely boy and his family at their home in a Flat at Kota Damansara early this year and had the opportunity to meet him and his family again at MAKNA HQ a few days back.

Syazwan's parents are both blind. Syazwan and his parents rely on his sister which is still in primary school, to go to the market and do daily chores. I appeal and invite you to come forward and help. Give Syazwan a chance to live a normal life...

Lets spread the word and do what we can to save Syazwan... Insya-Allah.

All That I Am

I can't buy you fancy rings
Or all of the expensive things you're used to baby
No trips around the world no diamonds or pearls
To give to you baby
But what i've got a give is more precious
Than you'll ever know
My deepest inner feelings my heart and soul

Cause all that i am is a man in love with you
Cause all that i am is a man who's heart is true
And in love with you

Girl i know you're not blind
Cause when i look into your eyes, you meet me half way
Yes you do, Just accept me as i am
Try to understand, that i want you always
Just give me the chance and i'll show you
The world my love
My deepest inner feeling, my heart and soul

Deny it all you want
I know you have your doubts about me
Just put them all aside
And follow where your heart leads

Cause all that i am is a man who loves you
All that i am is a man whose heart is true
Cause all that i am is a man who loves you
Man in love with you

I was reading my previous posts… the one in particular about love….

The past couple of days brought me thinking about relationships in general. Why do people get into relationships? What is the pull factor of the opposite party? Do people get into a relationship because they share the same passion and interest? Or would one be in a relationship with a partner that is completely the opposite… as the saying goes, “Opposite Attracts”? Or would they be in a relationship because they complement each other… like that movie… Jerry Maguire was it? “You Complete Me…”

I’m pretty sure that there must be some things that are in common between two people that attract one another. One might adore and respect someone for the work he/she has done. But can that be constituted as having feelings of love? The attraction can be purely platonic, such as two people share the same hobbies or interest. The commonness may also lead to an attraction of love and/or lust.

For me, attraction, affection, the magnet of love, what ever you may want to call it, does not only lie in sharing the same interests and passion. Yes! I agree that I would like my other half to share some, not all, but some of my interests and passions. At least, I will not be doing my hobbies alone… and I do have someone to talk to which understands what I like…. and understands me. I too want to share and experience the interest of my other half…

I would also want my other half to be some kind of the opposite of me, so that I can learn and embark on new things… to go on an adventure of life… to go where no one has gone before…. Who else to better do it with? My other half.. right??? :)

I would also want my other half to complete me… to be the best of me… to some extent… to be who I am not… in a good way, that is. (if I can put it correctly)
I want my other half... to be my better half...

What makes a couple bind so strongly and can be together all their lives? To Cherish, To Love and To Hold, Till Death Do Us Part?

As for me… I need not look far too…. I live with my parents… They have been together over 35years… they are a very happy couple…. And they don’t really share the same interest and passion… do there are common things that they share…. I dare to say that they are also somewhat opposite in character…. But they complete each other… and the most important thing is…. They love one another and they love me! :)

I remember my visit to Kuala Krai a few months back. I was visiting a cancer patient’s Home. Patient lives with her husband in a rundown PPRT house they proudly call home. Patient suffers from Breast CA and is mute. Husband is also mute and is partially paralysed due to a stroke recently and still recovering. They have a child whom is currently in KL working. When I arrived at their home, both of them welcomed us with open hands and hearts. I could see that in their expression. They seem to be a very loving couple… considering that both of them are mute and they are recovering from their illness. The patient’s husband was working as a rubber tapper before the stroke. With little money in hand, they had to travel to HUSMKK every couple of week for C/T treatment. Its amazing isn’t it…. With a rundown home, both being mute, suffering from their separate illnesses, with minimal income… they are happy living together as husband and wife…

What made them attracted to each other? What made them be together all this while? Through thick and thin… Be it married couples, people in relationships, people just getting or planning to be in a relationship…. There’s a lot to be learned from this couple. Well… it definitely caught my attention after I visited them…

This brings me to the lyrics of a song:

“Berkorban Apa Saja, Harta Ataupun Nyawa, Itulah Kasih Mesra, Sejati Dan Mulia…”

I’ve yet to watch the famous movie “CINTA”. I hadn’t had a chance to watch it at the cinema… I guess… I will have to wait until the Original VCD/DVD comes out… I’ve been watching the advert on TV though…. And I kinda like the quote…

“Kadang-kadang, orang yang paling kita sayanglah yang paling susah untuk di sayangi. Bukan senang nak dapat teman hidup yang sanggup terima buruk baik kita, sanggup berkorban untuk kita, sanggup hidup bersama sampai ke akhir hayat…”

“Kita sayang sangat kat dia… Awak tau tak? Perasaan dia bila kita jumpa orang tu… Pastu kita terus tahu… yang dialah teman hidup kita… Awak tau tak???”

Aizan Azrina Rosli for Young Humanitarian Award

Congratulations Coach Aizan!!!
Congratulations Projek Tekad Family!!!
Congratulations Winners and Nominees!!!

Below is the excerps of the speech by YAB Dato' Seri Abdullah Hj Ahmad Badawi at the NSTP-PwC Malaysia Humanitarian Award Presentation Ceremony 2006.

1. THANK YOU FOR INVITING ME TO SAY A FEW WORDS AT THE NSTP-PWC HUMANITARIAN AWARDS PRESENTATION. I AM INDEED HONOURED TO BE IN SUCH EXALTED COMPANY – AMONG INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE DEVOTED THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS, THEIR BODIES AND SOULS TO THE SERVICE OF HUMANITY.

2. BY THEIR VERY NATURE, HUMANITARIANS PLACE THE WELL-BEING OF OTHERS ABOVE ALL ELSE AND THEY THEREFORE DO NOT COVET FAME OR REWARD. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS SHOULD GO UNNOTICED OR THAT THEIR SACRIFICES SHOULD GO UNACKNOWLEDGED. SOCIETY IS ALL THE RICHER BECAUSE OF THE SHINING EXAMPLES THAT THEY SET. I AM SURE THE ORGANISERS WOULD AGREE WITH ME THAT THESE AWARDS ARE NOT MEANT TO GLORIFY, BUT TO EDIFY.

3. AS I UNDERSTAND IT, THE HUMANITARIANS THAT HAVE BEEN NOMINATED SPAN A WIDE ARRAY OF DEEDS AND CONTRIBUTIONS. YOUNG AND OLD, INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS – THE COMMON DENOMINATOR IS THAT THEY HAVE DISTINGUISHED THEMSELVES BY HELPING OTHERS. INCLUDED AMONG THE NOMINEES ARE THOSE WHO HAVE CONSISTENTLY DEVOTED THEMSELVES TO CARE FOR THE LESS FORTUNATE. OTHERS HAVE HARNESSED THE PHILANTHROPY OF THE PUBLIC FOR WORTHY CAUSES. SOME HAVE, THROUGH THEIR ACTS OF COURAGE AND CONCERN, HAVE SAVED AND CHANGED LIVES.

4. WHATEVER THE SHAPE OR FORM OF THEIR ACTS OF HUMANITARIANISM, I DO NOT ENVY DATO’ PAUL LEONG AND HIS PANEL OF JUDGES. BASED ON WHAT I HAVE SEEN, ALL OF THE NOMINEES HAVE PERFORMED STERLING SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY AND IN MY EYES, ALL ARE WINNERS. I SHOULD ADD THAT ALL THE DILIGENCE THAT HAS GONE INTO THE SELECTION PROCESS WILL BE WORTHWHILE IF FELLOW MALAYSIANS ARE INSPIRED TO FOLLOW IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN NOMINATED TONIGHT. AT THE VERY LEAST, IF THESE AWARDS CAN INSPIRE ORDINARY MALAYSIANS TO AT LEAST GIVE A LITTLE TIME AND THOUGHT TO THE LESS FORTUNATE, THEN THESE AWARDS WOULD HAVE MADE A PROFOUND DIFFERENCE.

5. WE IN MALAYSIA CAN CONSIDER OURSELVES LUCKY. OUR COUNTRY HAS ENJOYED POLITICAL STABILITY ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY FOR FIVE DECADES, ALTHOUGH WE CANNOT TAKE THIS BLESSING FOR GRANTED AND MUST CONSTANTLY WORK AT PRESERVING IT. OUR EFFORTS TO COMBAT POVERTY HAVE BEEN ACKNOWLEDGED BY THE UNITED NATIONS AS ONE OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMS OF ITS KIND ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. BY AND LARGE, WE ARE FREE FROM THE MASSIVE NATURAL DISASTERS THAT RAVAGE MANY COUNTRIES IN OUR REGION, ALTHOUGH THE TSUNAMI TWO YEARS AGO WAS A SOBERING WAKE-UP CALL AGAINST COMPLACENCY.

6. THIS RELATIVE STATE OF GRACE HAS ENABLED US TO DEVELOP THIS COUNTRY IN A CONSISTENT AND SUSTAINED MANNER. THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOUR ARE CLEAR FOR ALL TO SEE. ALMOST EVERYWHERE WE TURN, ESPECIALLY IN URBAN SETTINGS SUCH AS THIS, THE MONUMENTS OF OUR PROGRESS BEAR TESTAMENT TO HOW SUCCESSFUL MALAYSIA HAS BECOME.

7. BUT THE TRAPPINGS OF OUR ACHIEVEMENTS SHOULD NOT BLIND US TO THE FACT THAT THERE ARE STILL THOSE IN OUR COUNTRY WHO ARE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE. THERE ARE STILL PARTS OF THE COUNTRY THAT HAVE NOT FULLY BENEFITED FROM OUR STRONG ECONOMIC GROWTH, JUST AS THERE ARE PORTIONS OF SOCIETY WHO STILL REQUIRE A HELPING HAND.

8. OF COURSE, THE PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO PROVIDE FOR AND IMPROVE THE WELFARE OF THE PEOPLE LIES WITH THE GOVERNMENT. AND IN THIS REGARD, WE WILL NOT REST IN ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF THE MALAYSIAN PEOPLE. HOWEVER, THE FACT THAT THERE ARE THOSE WHO ARE WILLING TO STEP UP TO HELP THEIR FELLOW CITIZENS IS PROOF OF THE GENEROSITY OF SPIRIT THAT UNDERPINS MALAYSIAN SOCIETY. IT IS ALMOST SECONDARY THAT THEIR EFFORTS COMPLEMENT AND SUPPLEMENT GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES AND THAT THEY HELP TO SHOULDER THE HEAVY TASK. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEIR CARE AND CONCERN FOR THEIR LESS FORTUNATE FELLOW MALAYSIANS, FORM THE GLUE THAT BINDS US TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY. THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO REPRESENT THE ESSENCE OF MALAYSIA, RATHER THAN THE SHAMEFUL DISPLAYS OF APATHY THAT ARE BECOMING MORE APPARENT IN MODERN SOCIETY.

9. THEIR GENEROSITY MAKES ME OPTIMISTIC THAT THE QUEST FOR MATERIAL COMFORTS HAS NOT EXTINGUISHED OUR CAPACITY FOR COMPASSION AND DECENCY. MALAYSIA AND MALAYSIANS HAVE ALWAYS ANSWERED THE CALL OF HUMANITARIAN DUTY TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITIES. WHETHER IN ACEH, PAKISTAN OR LEBANON, IT IS A SOURCE OF PRIDE THAT OUR CITIZENS ARE AMONG THE FIRST ON THE SCENE WHENEVER DISASTER STRIKES. THIS IS A TRADITION THAT I HOPE CONTINUES LONG INTO THE FUTURE.

10. ON A SEPARATE NOTE, I AM ALSO PLEASED THAT MANY OF OUR CHARITABLE ORGANISATIONS DO NOT JUST HAND OUT ALMS BUT HAVE GONE A STEP FURTHER BY WORKING TO EMPOWER THE HAVE-NOTS. WHILE WE APPLAUD THE NOBLE ACTS OF GIVING AID TO THOSE IN NEED, I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT THE CAPACITY BUILDING ASPECT OF HUMANITARIAN WORK IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT. TANGIBLE AID LIKE MONEY, EQUIPMENT AND OTHER GOODS MAY BE HELPFUL DURING EMERGENCIES OR DURING CRISIS SITUATIONS. IN THE LONG RUN, HOWEVER, IT IS BEST THAT PEOPLE ARE GIVEN THE TOOLS TO HELP THEM REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL. EVERYONE HAS THE ABILITY TO GROW AND BLOSSOM IF GIVEN THE PROPER GUIDANCE AND THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITIES.

11. BEFORE I END, I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER MY CONGRATULATIONS TO THE NSTP GROUP AND PRICEWATERHOUSECOOPERS FOR ORGANIZING THESE AWARDS. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO RECORD MY APPRECIATION TO ALL THE INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS WHO HAVE CONTRIBUTED THEIR TIME AND ENERGY TO ENSURE THAT THIS EVENT IS A SUCCESS.

12. OF COURSE, MY HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS AND GRATITUDE GOES TO ALL THE AWARD NOMINEES AND RECIPIENTS. I HOPE THAT THE RECOGNITION GIVEN TO YOU TONIGHT MARKS A NEW BEGINNING IN YOUR NOBLE EFFORTS TO WORK FOR THE BETTERMENT OF SOCIETY. MALAYSIA IS A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE OF YOUR GOOD WORK.

13. MANY YEARS AGO, AS A YOUNG BOY IN SCHOOL, I LEARNED SOME WORDS OF WISDOM THAT HAVE STAYED WITH ME ALL THIS TIME. IF MEMORY SERVES ME CORRECTLY, IT GOES LIKE THIS: “I EXPECT TO PASS THROUGH THE WORLD BUT ONCE. ANY GOOD THEREFORE THAT I CAN DO, OR ANY KINDNESS I CAN SHOW TO ANY CREATURE, LET ME DO IT NOW. LET ME NOT DEFER IT, FOR I SHALL NOT PASS THIS WAY AGAIN.” I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT THESE ARE WORDS THAT WOULD SERVE HUMANKIND WELL AND IT IS A CREDO THAT I HAVE TRIED TO LIVE BY. IT IS ALSO A CREDO THAT THE NOMINEES FOR THIS AWARD EXHIBIT EXEMPLIFY MAGNIFICENTLY. MAY WE CONTINUE TO BE MOVED TO SHOW KINDNESS ALWAYS.

THANK YOU.

Doa Orang Tawadduk

Ya Tuhan, yang melaksanakan segala hajat,
Ya Tuhan, yang menerima segala permintaan,

Lemah kami, kuatkanlah
Lalai kami, ingatkanlah
Jahil kami, pandaikanlah
Kotor hati kami, bersihkanlah
Gelap hati kami, terangkanlah
Keras hati kami, lembutkanlah
'Ujub riya' kami, ikhlaskanlah
Takabbur zalim kami, tawadhu'kanlah
Salah kami, maafkanlah
Dosa kami, ampunkanlah
Kejahatan kami, taubatkanlah
Susah kami, angkatkanlah
Sempit kami, lapangkanlah
Sakit kami, sembuhkanlah
Uzur kami, sihatkanlah
Segala urusan kami, permudahkanlah
Segala masalah kami, selesaikanlah.

Kami tiada kaya, hanya Engkau yang maha kaya;

Kami tiada kuat, hanya Engkau yang maha kuasa;
Kami tiada pandai, hanya Engkau yang maha bijaksana;

How Safe Are The Safe Deposit Boxes?

Are the safe deposit boxes in banks safe enough?

Are the strong room in the banks strong enough?

Over the Deepavali & Raya holidays, the strong room of a bank was broken into and it took more than 12 hours before the alarm kicked in. 92 safe deposit boxes were compromised. Depositors get a mere RM10,000 for the loss of goods.

This is not the first time where a bank's strong room has been compromised. It happend before 11 years ago... What attracted me was a comment by one of the depositors, "Kalau bank pun sudah tak selamat, mana lagi saya mau simpan?" hahahaha!!!

So can the banks and its security system be trusted? Thinking about it, the incident recently, there's much room for improvement. For one, the bank tak de CCTV at the upper floors, the alarm didnt function, the CMS didnt work.

I would like to suggest that Police District Headquarters offer safe deposit box services. In theory, if the strong room is in the Police Station, it should be safe. There are Police Officer armed with either a 9mm side arm or a styer or a M16 at the station at all times. The Police Station is also open 24hrs a day, 7 Days a week and also opens during festivities. It would then be fairly difficult for the socalled "Tunnel Rat Gang" to bust into a police station (unless its an inside job la). Kalau inside job and the strong room in an IPD is compromised, then there is something very serious that's going on in the police force and you can always ask the government to establish a Royal Commission :) hehehe. Lagipun, Customers can have access to their belongings 24 hours a day, as opposed to banking hours only. It would also be added income to the Government.

How many of us are willing to use the safe deposit boxes if the service is provided by the Police? Well, its something to think about....

Over the past few days of Hari Raya, I have been exchanging Raya greetings via sms, and I'm sure most of you do it as well.... What happened to the traditional Hari Raya Cards by post?? Hmm.... well, I do still send them to a few people.... but majoritily, Greetings are by SMS :)

Here are some of the interesting ones:

Salam aidilfitri pengganti diri,
Buat teman yg selalu di hati,
Kenangan lama bersemadi disanubari,
Setiap kali ku terdengar takbir berbunyi.
SMS di hantar pengganti diri,
Maaf zahir batin ku pohoni,
Semoga persahabatan kekal abadi,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

1 2 3 empat,
Kire duit raya berape dapat,
Nak hantar kad raye dah tak dapat,
Hantar SMS lagi cepat,
Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Anak pak syukor menjual pelita,
Pelita dijual berguni-guni,
Salam dihulur maaf dipinta,
Semoga ceria di aldilfitri ini.

Hantu raya pakai kebaya,
Mandi di paya tak pakai coli,
Kalau puasa Selamat Hari Raya,
Kalau tak puasa Happy Deepavali.

Kura-kura berjalan lambat,
Anak kera melompat-lompat,
Kad Raya nak hantar takut lambat,
Cara SMS pun dah kira selamat.

Buaya bukan sebarang buaya,
Buaya dibela didalam paya,
Salam ceria di hari raya,
SMS lagi murah dari kat raya.

Di aidilfitri yang mulia,
Maaf dipinta andainya,
TERkasar bahasa...
TERsilap bicara...
TERmarah yang tak kena...

TERsasul yang tak sengaja...
TERpukul kat mana-mana...
TERpekik di telinga...
TERhantuk di kepala...
TERpinjam harta benda...
TERmoody tak semena-mena...
TERumpat bila-bila...
TERusik yang sengaja dan
macam-macam lagi yang adaaa...
Selamat Hari Raya!!!

Ku pegang kau punya, kau pegang ku punya,
Ku ramas kau punya, kau ramas ku punya,
Kemudian kita goyang bersama-sama,
Itulah tandanya kita bersalam kemaafan.

Sebuah Kisah Cinta...

Sebuah kisah percintaan...

Isteri: Mengapa abang menyukai saya? Mengapa abang cintakan saya?

Si suami menarik nafas panjang dan dia berkata;

"Sayang! Jika disebabkan suara, aku mencintai mu... sekarang bolehkah engkau bersuara? Tidak! Oleh itu, aku tidak boleh mencintaimu. Jika disebabkan kasih sayang dan ingatan, aku mencintaimu... sekarang bolehkah engkau menunjukkannya? Tidak! Oleh itu, aku tidak boleh mencintaimu. Jika disebabkan senyuman, aku mencintaimu... sekarang bolehkan engkau tersenyum? Tidak! Oleh itu aku tidak boleh mencintaimu. Jika disebabkan setiap langkah, aku mencintai mu... sekarang bolehkah engkau melangkah? Tidak! Oleh itu aku tidak boleh mencintaimu.

Jika cinta memerlukan sebabnya, seperti sekarang.

Verily! We have sent it (this Al-Quran) down in the night of Al-Qadr (Decree). And what will make you know what the night of Decree is? The night of Al-Qadr (Decree) is better than a thousand months. Therein descend the angels and Jibril by Allah's permission with all Decrees. Peace (All that night, there is peace and goodness from Allah to His believing slaves) until the appreance of dawn.

The Malaysian Press Can Do Better

Initially I though of having "What's Wrong With the Malaysian Press?" as the title of this post.... But it sounded too negative. So what's right with our press/media? How can our press do better in terms of their Headlines and Stories?

Over the past few months, I have been observing that the stories in the press are more related to tragedy, accidents, deaths, in short... negativity. Us Malaysian are not tragic and saddist people!! So why does the press have to potray the negative things that happen. No doubt, there are lessons to be learnt from tragedies, and probably awareness from showing stories and pictures about road accidents. Over the long run, we will live in fear... fear of these tragedies happening to us.

Stories of tragic and accidents will increase, especially during the festive season... if you don't believe me... just watch the news both electronic and print. Today itself, on the front page and in leading news on radio and TV is "1000 Accidents on the 1st day of Ops Sikap". Come on lah.... Our media can do better rite??

I think the press should look into protraying and publishing stories of heroism, courage, kindness, love and all the good things. I'm sure that if the reporters actually concentrate in looking for stories of good, they will find it. And I am more than sure that there are thousands of people that do good deeds in Malaysia in a day.

Even, if possible, biarlah cerita-cerita melayu, cina, india dan sebagainya that is locally produced also protray good stories about our livelihood. Ini keluar cerita, gaduh, gangster, cerai-berai, anak lari dari rumah, tipu muslihat and others. No doubt, this things do happen in our community. But what about stories of people helping orphans, struggles of people in luar bandar trying to have a good life, cerita anak-anak malaysia yang berjaya di perantauan, orang-orang kaya yang membantu orang-orang kurang bernasib baik. Lets watch the TV over the holidays and analyse what stories comes out.

We keep saying that MEDIA is an important factor that influences our lives, the lives of our children... and we and our children are being fed with stories of despair and no good everyday...

I cant imagine what the children of Malaysia will turn out to be in the future...

My 2 sen worth before Deepavali & Hari Raya.

INFO ~ CANCER SERIES #2: How Is Cancer Treatment Provided?

There are four main types of treatment for cancer. They include:
  • Surgery,
  • Radiation Therapy,
  • Chemotherapy; and
  • Biological Therapy.

These are used to destroy cancer cells and bring about a remission. Depending on the type and stage of cancer, a doctor may decide to use one treatment method or a combination of methods to achieve the best results.

The Essence Of A New Day

Today

This is the beginning of a New Day.
I have this day to use as I will.
I can waste it or grow in its light
and be of service to others.
But what I do with this day is
important because I have
exchanged a day of my life for it.
When tomorrow comes,
today will be gone forever.
I hope I will not regret the price I paid for it.

Tak Nak!!!

This Ramadan also brings me a new tekad in life... I want to be part of the "Tak Nak!!!" Campaign :)

I've been trying to quit smoking over the past 2 Ramadans... suceeded at first.... but... it couldn't last... I started smoking again... slowly :)

This time round.... I'm getting some extra help and motivation... from a particular someone, H (Who's H? My Dearly Beloved, of course). Assessing the scenarios over the past 2 Ramadans when I started the Tak Nak Campaign (which sadly...I failed), I think it was more of lack of self motivation. I am currently driven to stop smoking... and I am sure that I will get the motivation from My Dearly Beloved :) kan sayang kan??? I've even requested her to Doa during her visit to Mekah for me to stop smoking and that I stay smoke free!!! InsyaAllah.

I read somewhere that it takes 21 Days to form a habit... Hope it takes 21 Days to get rid of a habit as well... hehehehe

On another note, I think its a blessing in disguise that H, isn't in the country and uncontactable during this period of Nicotine Withdrawal Syndrome... Kalau tak... sure stress punya :p It is stated that the Nicotine Withdrawal Syndrome will go away between 3 to 14 days.... I hope it doesn't stretch more than 30 days.... ;)

I came across a Booklet on Quit Smoking by Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia.

Katakan TAK NAK!!! Setiap Sedutan Membawa Padah

Well... its been what? A few days now... and things are going fine for me... smoke free :)

but... I miss H sooooo much.........

INFO ~ CANCER SERIES #1: What Is Cancer?

INFO ~ CANCER SERIES #1: What Is Cancer?

Cancer is actually an umbrella name given to a group of about 210 diseases. Of these, only a few predominate in each country. In Malayia, cancer is the second leading cause of deaths. It is estimated that 40,000 cases are diagnosed yearly. Cancer can attack any organ of the body. The major cancer affecting males are cancer of the lung, nasopharynx, colon, leukaemia, rectum and prostate; while amongst females, cancer of the breast, cervix, colon, ovary, leukaemia and long are the most prevalent.
There are basically 3 types of cancer:
  • Carnicomas: These usually occur in rapidly dividing tissues such as cells that cover and line our bodies, including the skin, colon, breast, liver and breathing passages. These are the most common forms of cancer.
  • Sarcomas: This type of cancer generally occurs in more slowly dividing tissues such as the muscle and nerve tissues.
  • Leukaemia: These are cancers of the tissue that form the blood cells.

Cancer cells are abnormal cells. They keep dividing and forming more cells without control or order. A mass of extra tissue, called a growth or tumour, is formed. It can be either benign or malignant.

Benign tumours are not cancerous as they can be removed. In most cases, they do not reoccur. Benign tumours do not spread to other parts of the body and are rarely a threat to life.

Malignant tumours, on the other hand, are cancerous. It can spread to invade and damage nearby tissues and organs. Cancer cells can alo break away from the malignant tumour and enter the blookdstream or lymphatic system. This is how cancer spreads from the original or primary tumour to form new tumours in other parts of the body. The spread of cancer is called metastasis.

A Different Ramadan

"Sesungguhnya sesiapa yang bersolat (Tarawih) bersama imam sehingga selesai, maka Allah menulis baginya (ganjaran seumpama) bersolat sepanjang malam"
- Riwayat Al-Nasa'l

Every year, I look forward to Ramadan... lots of things happen in this Holy Month every year. One thing that i enjoy most in Ramadan is the visit to Pasar Ramadan. Lots of kuih-muih to saviour.... which ironically, I can only find at the Pasar in this particular month... bulan-bulan lain, macam susah je nak cari kuih-kuih ni.

Its also a ritual for me to Buka Puasa with a group of friends, which i seldom meet throughout the year. But we make it a point to meet up for buka puasa every Ramadan.

Its the only month to perform Solat Tarawih. I usually perform Tarawih prayers (whenever i can), at a surau nearby my home. There's always an increase in ibadah this time of year.... must find a way to continue the ibadah throughout the year.

I also use this time for reflection... a reflection of my life over the past year... and to start planning and executing for the next year.

+++++++++++++++

Blogging again??? Yup.... I started blogging again... after a long...long.... long rest :p
This particular someone requested me to update my blog.... and I think now is the appropriate time to start blogging again... when my heart is full of love and affection.... ;)

+++++++++++++++

This year's Ramadan is slightly different from other Ramadans...

It has been an emotional rollercoaster for me over the past few months... I met a girl :) This came unexpectedly... Earlier in the year, if someone came to me and said that i'll be spending time her... i'd say... not a chance.

I have been avoiding getting into relationships over the past few years because of the fear of being emotionally vunerable and getting hurt.

On the contrary, its different with her. Being vunerable and emotionally attached with her.... is unavoidable:) We've spent a lot of time with each other since a few months back... I love spending time with her... we could talk for hours about anything under the sky....
I've open my heart for her... I've shared my fears, my dreams, my hopes, and I have recently confessed my deepest inner feelings and attractions to her...

I was hoping that I would be able to celebrate Ramadan with her in KL... However, God had different plans for us... She's away for a month with her family. Its not easy to manage being apart from each other at this infant stage of our relationship... It has been an emotional rollercoaster for me since I knew that she was going for the trip. Being apart from each other is one thing.... not being able to talk to each other for a whole month is another... We've been talking to each other over the phone every single day for the past few months.... It's gonna be hard... really hard... but its something that we have to learn and manage.... Looking at it... It is a test of our relationship.

I miss you very much sayang. I look forward for you to come back :)
She's coming back a day before Raya... but I'll only be seeing her, a week after that...

I pray to God that our love for each other grows more and more everyday... InsyaAllah.

2 Ramadan 1427H
